Meet the Teacher Behind Middle School Señora

Hi! I’m Marlene, the teacher and creator behind Middle School Señora.

I’m a middle school Spanish teacher, a native Spanish speaker, and the daughter of Cuban immigrants. My language and heritage are an important part of who I am and have shaped the way I think about teaching Spanish: language is meant to be used, experienced, and connected to people and culture—not simply memorized for a test.

I create Spanish resources primarily for novice learners in grades 6–10 and Spanish 1, with some resources extending into Spanish 2.

Whether you teach from an adopted curriculum, build your own, or fall somewhere in between, I believe we can take what we need to teach and turn it into something more meaningful—more communication, more interaction, more comprehensible language, and more opportunities for students to build real proficiency and confidence.

That philosophy is at the heart of Middle School Señora.

Teaching Experience

I’ve been teaching since 2007, with most of my experience in 7th and 8th grade. I’ve also taught high school and served as an adjunct instructor at the university level.

That passion for middle school language learning eventually led me to create Middle School Señora—a collection of classroom-tested Spanish resources designed to help teachers save planning time while keeping novice learners engaged, supported, and successful.

I focus on building routines, reinforcing vocabulary through consistent input, and creating activities that keep students engaged—not overwhelmed.
